for Buildings with a Tragic Past!
Yes, some buildings have a tragic past. No matter how old or recent the tragedy, it taints the Feng Shui of the building. There may have been a suicide, murder, assault, acts of war or other such violent events. The history of the land prior to construction also affects the Feng Shui of the property as a whole. I'd like to think that no one would knowingly build on land that was once used as a cemetery. But does anyone know whether there was ever a hanging, duel, shoot-out, battle or other violent act on their property?
Whether you feel the presence of a ghost or not, the building and/or land is considered undesirable because of the violent event. It might be fun to spend one night in a haunted hotel room, but living or working in such a place is a nightmare. The energy is unable to support the occupants having a full and productive, not to mention happy, life.
You'd be surprised how many clients over the years have asked if Feng Shui could help with a haunted house or a house with a tragic history. The answer is yes, to some extent... And I have other methods to clear all violent residue from any building or land, so there's no need for my clients to call in a separate 'House Clearing' person.
One case that makes a spirit choose to stay in one home over another is when the inside of your house is too YIN (dark, inactive, still). In this case you want to open your curtains and let more natural light into your home to make it more YANG (bright, active, lively) to encourage the spirits to depart. If that's impossible, use full spectrum light bulbs to imitate actual sunlight, which will also help everyone avoid depression in the winter months when the days are shorter.
When analyzing the unique Feng Shui energy pattern of your home or office, according to when it was built and its exact compass orientation, I look for certain energy combinations that make areas of your building attractive to spirits. In Classical Feng Shui this is referred to as "Yin God Fully Grounded," meaning the Yin energy is fully grounded in the area... so it's very comfortable for spirits to stay there. In some cases this energy combination is only triggered by the visiting Annual Energy, which is yet another excellent reason to have your Feng Shui remedies updated each year.
All homes and offices have a combination of unseen Yin and Yang energies in the various sections of the building. When there's too much Yin energy in any given room, that's where the spirits will choose to reside... especially in the SE, South, SW or West, which are the inherently Yin directions. In this case, bringing in more natural light will help to some extent. However, you'll have better results by also adding the appropriate elemental remedy to that room according to its unique energy combination to reduce the Yin energy.
For a fortunate few... a Wang or prosperous energy at your entrance will prevent your home or office from being haunted, as well as make it easier for you to make more money. That's right - office buildings can also be haunted. One of my clients had an office in a building that was originally a mortuary, so it had numerous spirits that liked to come out to play after dark. It's no wonder everyone that works there prefers to leave before sunset.
An energy combination that all classically trained Feng Shui professionals would love to have in their home or office is called... "Five Ghost Carry Money." However, it doesn't have anything to do with actual spirits making the delivery. It's referring to the best energy combination for easily bringing prosperity to you. On the other hand, if you want to have a baby... you'd love to have "Five Ghost Carry Baby" at your door or in your bedroom. There are simple ways to activate these energies if you're lucky enough to have one of them in your home or office.
The worst place to live, work or build is where someone has been buried or died by violence, because to cleanse the building or land using the traditional Feng Shui method is to let it BURN for at least 3 days straight. Yes, 72 hours non-stop and then rebuild. Today there are very, very few places on Earth that would allow using such extreme measures.
